Iftar time again! This time I found myself at Dunes Cafe at the Shangri-La Hotel. This one comes in at 180 Dhs each, at the pricier end of the scale, but is it worth it? We got off to a good start with waiter service bringing us choice of soft drinks and a coffee man doing the rounds. Foodwise, there's a long double-sided counter with plenty of salad options, and a soup and bread counter too, my plate was piled high for round 1! So far so good. Onto the mains, there's a live cooking station with fresh fish and meats for grilling, all very tasty. There's the inevitable Ouzi and the usual Arabic staples plus some Indian and pasta (mac and cheese!) options too. Again, everything going well, although not exactly overwhelming. Then we got to the dessert station, and in my best Janice from Friends voice, Oh. My. God! The selection was massive, everything was amazing, I half considered making myself sick to make room for more! The chocolate brownie cheesecakes were a particular highlight. All in all, a pleasant and belly-filling experience.

It is a bit pricey but it's the best place for a lunch meeting!
I have been to their lunch buffet. The variety is amazing, from Arabic to Italian to Chinese and International food. You can never go wrong by inviting someone there as they always find something they like ta have.
The food is delicious and of a very good quality.
The live cooking is enjoyable as well, specially when your sushi is made freshly in front of you.
The service is very good, staff are attentive and smiley and the place is elegantly decorated and very open with a high ceiling, so you don't feel squeezed in like in a restaurant, of course it is because it's located at the lobby level of Shangri La hotel.
Overall it is worth what you're paying for and your guests will thank you for bringing them there.
