This was my first visit to Ocacti Mexican Restaurant in Pier 7 on the Dubai Marina and I was actually pretty impressed. I went with a group of about 15 people for a great friends birthday party and the whole night was seamlessly very good. Our waitstaff were outstanding and we seemed to be surrounded by people constantly replacing our drinks and ensuring we were OK. I arrived at about 8.30pm and it was pretty quiet considering the restaurant can probably hold 250+ people but as the night progressed the crowds started to pour in as it got closer to the real match for the Football World Cup. There seemed to be a number of large groups celebrating so the atmosphere was loud and exciting but don't expect to hear anything else unless the person is right next to you. It's close contact only! Ocacti also had a live south american all female band playing throughout the night and they really knew how to light up the place. As for the food, well I thought it was good, not great, but then it's hard to find solid Mexican cuisine anywhere in Dubai. I'm not sure what our party host had organised but we had so much food on the table we were spoilt for choice. The crunchy rolled tacos had a great kick to them, the mussels were good as were the nachos and soft tacos. It's a bit hard for me to really comment on the food as we were really into sharing plates and I was pretty hungry but I would go back and try this again for sure. I checked out the earlier Yadig reviews and am happy to say I think Ocacti has lifted their game and you should come even for a drink and a few starters to re-access the Mexican offering!

I stumbled upon a voucher deal for an 8 course dinner plus 2 drinks for 149. I had never even heard of Ocacti but hailing from the southwest USA and missing some serious Mexcan food, I jumped at the deal and got it. Boy I wish I had done a bit more research first. I really really really want to like Ocacti. That being said, don't come here hungry. Let me start with the GOOD things about Ocacti: large indoor dining with beautiful decor, large wrap around balcony with a perfect marina view and comfy and inviting lounge chairs, cool DJ playing chill Latin style music, and decent margaritas. The bad? The food. I'm actually glad I had bought the voucher because the prices are quite high for the terrible taste. Everything was completely bland. ALL EIGHT COURSES. I barely ate anything, but at least managed to fill up enough to be full. It was definitely not anything I would call Mexican- the chips didn't taste fresh but mostly packaged. The "queso fundido" was just melted yellow cheese with a few mushrooms in it that hardened quickly. The fajitas (prawn and beef) had no flavoring; I felt myself just chewing and chewing, waiting for the flavor to kick in. I was so disappointed in the food, but we would have paid the same amount for 2-3 drinks anywhere else and that's the only way we justified it. I felt I could have cooked this subpar flavored food myself (and I #$%^&* at cooking) but at least the venue and atmosphere made it a semi-enjoyable experience. What a shame the food #$%^&*s, because everything else about this RESTAURANT (hint: where food is the main product) is great. So don't come here to eat, but to chill and lounge and absorb a great marina view.

OK, so this place is in a great location in Dubai Marina right next to Marina Mall. They offer free valet parking if you get a stamp from the restaurant. The restaurant looks really nice on the inside. It has a large sitting area outside with great views of the Marina and skyline.

With that being said, there is no other redeeming quality about this restaurant. The menu is incredibly sparse. I mean, you have like 3 options for ordering. We ordered the tacos for two, which is pretty pricy but it had duck and prawns, so we figured to try it out. We had tried to get the seafood, but it wasn't available (really, you have like 3 options and you're out of one of them). We also got a mussels appetizer.

Here are some highlights

- the taco platter was incredibly weak. The "prawns" were not prawns at all. Honestly, they looked like canned shrimp. It was laughable. The duck was not very good and the only redeeming part was the shredded chicken...and that was just "OK"
- this place claims to have a legitimate chef behind it. How this guy came up with such a small menu is beyond me. And to not get something so basic down is ridiculous.
- the staff seemed clueless. I think they are all aware they are pushing a bad product. It is way over-staffed for what is there.

If you ask me, this place needs to start over. The "brand" is good, but they need a tremendous amount of work. Having worked in the restaurant industry in the past, I would say that they need to completely revamp the menu. Bring a true Mexican chef and make some solid dishes. Have staples. You couldn't do a play on tamales? Have even a burrito on the menu? The space inside is beautiful. It could easily accommodate a couple hundred people. I think there was 1 table full on a weekend night.

This restaurant wouldn't survive in the US Southwest. If it stays like this, it will not survive here either.

Ocacti has just introduced Ladies night on Sundays. So I popped up there around 11 pm, expecting that people would be dancing while "dj plaing latino mixes" - as promised by the ad. Well, what a pity, but the inside restaurant area was completely empty, no music plaing at all. So I decided to have seat at the picturesque outside terrace, which was half empty if not more. Music there was loud enough to be heard and the whole atmosphere and ambiance were very nice. Lounge chairs with a lot of pillows was a very good idea.
When I asked for a fruit daiquri, I was served a plain one. Well, I thought, it's free anyway, thus there is not much to complain about. Afterwards I asked for a fruit one again (it was clearly stated in the menu that they had one), but was offfered only strawberry. I must also note that the ice cubes in glass were the biggest I've ever seen, hence drink was finished fast to my disspoaintment.
Overall such service does not encourage to pay for something extra outside of the free range of drinks. That was the dullest ladies night I ever had.
I wish they were more realistic in their promotions ad so that people will have the right expectations.

Went to O Cacti tonight with a groupon deal. The food was terrible, we ate it because we were hungry but I would not like to have paid full price. The best item that was presented was the sparkling mineral water, which says something. Food was bland with no spice which you would expect being mexican fusion food. The most laughable food was the Taco platter. Canned pineapple with the shrimp and raspberries on top of the duck. It was just weird!! Service was ok. The place was empty and the music seemed to be the same 2 tracks of south american music playing over and over. Would recommend to enemies only. A real shame as I would have liked to make this our local as we just live next door.

Great Vibe and ambience. I liked the décor and table/ bar set up. The DJ was cool and It was great to see people dancing after dinner. The service was ok; however you can tell the staff are relatively new and looked nervous. Enjoyed the food however portions a little small for me :-) On the whole it was a cool evening and somewhere I will visit again.

Horrible place. Do not waste your time and money. The food had no taste and they didn't have their signature dish the night we went - it was a Thursday - one of the big nights of the weekend and you don't have your signature dish?!?!?! Please...the manager said that it's because the chef is a Michelin star chef and he only used the best ingredients and they didn't have the right ingredients. Seriously? Your food has no taste and your chef is a Michelin star chef? Never, lies. Service was ok, nothing terrible. I would never go back as the food is horrible.

I don't want to talk to much smack about this place but honestly I do not think Dubai will ever have a good Mexican restaurant NO matter how many open up here, all of them are not that good. Anyways I checked out this place last night in the new Pier 7 restaurant tower next to Marina Mall and lets just say it was not that good but it probably just opened so we should cut it some slack....some, not much.

The reason I have beef with this place is the menu. The ambiance was nice, pretty simple. Staff was ok, you could tell they were new. It's really the menu, it was so limited. I mean they have literally four main course to choose from, like 4 things!.....tacos, fajitas, salads, and something else I can't remember. I know kind of weird, no enchiladas, no burritos or anything classical Mexican. The taco was the weirdest part....its 210AED for this build your own taco thing with shrimp, beef, chicken and duck. I ordered that thinking it was for one, its really not that big, and then the lady afterwards told me it was for 2....I did feel kind of fat but honestly it was not that big (check out the pic) Honestly its a really weird menu, nothing really Mexican about it.

I think I really want to hate this place because Dubai as a whole can not get Mexican right so it maybe unfair. I will probably try this place one more time but that's it if I have the same experience. The do sell alcohol here and the bill for 2 was about 500AED....yeah pretty pricey.
