About this business

The clean, delicate and exotic flavours of Japanese cuisine have taken Dubai by storm and one restaurant at the forefront of this trend is Sumo Sushi & Bento. This company runs a number of eateries in the city, including an establishment at Dubai Media City. Once you’ve taken a look at the Sumo Sushi menu, you’ll see why it’s proving such a hit.

Classic dishes such as teriyaki chicken bento with Sumo’s own homemade teriyaki sauce and unagi bento, which is made using freshwater eel, combine with sushi platters and fish sashimis for excellent variety. Because of the restaurant’s focus on offering top-quality food in a warm and relaxing environment, you’ll feel at home as soon as you step through its doors. The best part is, thanks to the affordable prices, you can return time and again!

Appetisers include ebi tempura , which is a dish of deep fried, battered prawns, and edamame, a creation based on lightly salted and steamed young soybeans. There is also a selection of salads on offer, including a sashimi version incorporating slices of tuna, shrimp, salmon and whitefish. You can tuck into more substantial dishes too, from Japanese curry katsu, a concoction of breaded, deep-fried chicken cutlets served in a traditional curry sauce to chirashi. Meanwhile, the bento options include garlic shrimp, miso beef and salmon teriyaki.

I have not been back to Sumo Sushi in awhile so I decided to grab some take away this time. Lunch time is still caos in this place so I suggest calling ahead instead of just walking in and ordering. I had the chirashi but basically asked them to just have salmon and tuna, the other white fish they usually use is not that good...stick with basics. Overall still ok sushi at a reasonable price.

Nice food selection, like a fast food japanese restaurant, like the sushi and roll, just sometimes the food that they serve is not fresh but most of the time is ok. Worth to try though!

I really used to love this place but I think the quality has come down a lot, especially during lunch hours where it is a mad house. I think they have so many orders during those hours they just put out whatever they can and people will eat it. A lot of the time my sushi still has the skin on it which I hate, especially on salmon. I do not know if their sushi has only gotten worse during lunch because I have not had dinner here but whatever it is they need to fix it. I really want to love them again because they have great prices but I have found myself wandering over to Sushi Counter or Miyabi down the street even if it is a little bit more expensive.

For office goers and other sushi lovers this place has quite a few nice options for sushi - the seating is fair and the service is also acceptable.During lunch hours the place is really busy so you may have to go for a take away. There is outdoor seating which is nice when the temperature permits! I recommend the Gyoza - pan seared chicken dumplings; In the Uramaki- the california is very popular;try the Alsaka which has a lovely crunch; for all the vegetarians you have the "Veggie"... aptly name so you don't have to search the menu :) I do not recommend the Bento however some do love the bento's served here.

This "go-to" sushi place gets the job done but it's not always pretty. Stay away from the side dishes unless you want a disappointing bowl of carbs. The delivery is convenient but expect an 80 dh minimum plus who wants to wait an hour for fresh fish?

Salmon bento, miso soup, tuna sandwich ( mind blowing) edamame ... Amazing sushi. I enjoy the media city one as its quite at night and near by, just cross the bridge and voila

Good sushi, friendly service. New favourite sushi place. Nice to be able to sit out and enjoy the cool night air. (Smoking is allowed outside) good variety of sushi. The pieces aren't always bite size so be warned for a really full mouth. ;) rainbow roll was not what we expected but other wise great place. Quick and easy.

It's nothing fancy, but it's decent quick sushi fix. I love their Crunchy Crazy. I hate the fact that they don't deliver after 10 pm.

I've always been hesitant about fast food sushi, especially for take out or delivery. I stepped outside my comfort zone last night and ordered in. The Green Dragon roll was excellent: a shrimp tempura roll with a thin avocado layer on the outside. Also tried the lava roll which was almost as good, albeit a bit spicy. They had an AED 80 minimum delivery charge, so I had to throw in another item. Went with the avocado/tuna masago and it was pretty decent. The tuna quality wasn't the best. My guess is they use the leftover bits of tuna from the sashimi/nigiri to make the salad, so the pieces are not the highest quality. All in all, a pretty positive experience. Will do it again for sure...

For a lunch spot this place is pretty good. It's tucked away in the bbc building in Media City, but you'll be able to find it as there is a solid crowd for lunch. The sushi is pretty good, and you can feel good about it due to the fact that it is really busy, and the fish will be fresh. The pic is of a signature dish. I didn't care for it. There is much better things on the menu.

When I used to work in Media City, I ordered from here all the time because it was consistent and a healthy option but I always had to order right when they phone lines opened if I wanted to receive my order by lunch since they get super busy. For the times I actually went into restaurant, I think the portions were better but the staff gets so busy that they often forget things like parts of your order. The prices are decent and the turnover is reassuring so that food is never left sitting for too long!

The kings of sushi in Dubai... had a iftar delivery from there the other day. We ordered for 4 people, at 6 pm, for delivery. The sushi arrived at 8.30 pm, but this time we let it go because apparently the drivers have to eat at 7 pm.. ok, which makes sense, but I wish they had let you know, maybe in their websites or while ordering, NOT AFTER ordering, that the iftar delivery takes a while. So while the poor drivers broke their iftar, I couldnt break mine and had to starve an hour more to wait for delivery. Overall the sushi was good.. I wouldnt say its something to write home about.. I had the salmon bento box, and tons of salmon sashimi.. maybe theyre better if you eat inside the location, I dunno.

Came here this weekend and they are open for Ramadan. How can you not like this place, they have good sushi at decent prices. It is not the best sushi in the world but it is fresh and better than any conveyor belt sushi you can get. This Sumo in Media City is not super big but decorated pretty well. They are extremely fast as well so if you need a quick healthy lunch they are perfect. Overall good experience and will be coming back here again. Oh, also I ordered the salmon lover bento and the rainbow roll, both really good.

Came in here the other day and had the cherashi bowl (sashimi on rice), just enough to fill you up and send you on your way. Price was reasonable to, 56AED. If you come for lunch make sure you come a little early or late, I showed up at one and it was packed.

Came here for a business dinner the other day. Took me about an hour to find the place (and I live 5 mins away disaster lol) its hidden away in the bushes next to the BBC building. My friend warned me of several cases of food poisoning from this particular branch but we went nonetheless. The sushi is awesome - comes in all sorts of shapes I have never seen before, gave me ideas for my own sushi making skills :-) They dont have a great vegi selection - just avocado maki so I went for the bento box which wasnt that great tbh. The tofu tasted weird and I wasnt impressed. It was super busy in here though, service ok. All in all not great for the vegi sushi lover, i was watching my friends eating all sorts of funky triangular shaped sushi and getting a bit jealous that I could not join in with their feast. I can see why seafood eaters prefer this to Yosushi though.

Ordered sumo last night at 430pm. They kindly let me know that maximum it will take is 1.5 hours since they're busy I said ok....I'm only 1 km from their restaurant so I figure that's just precaution..max 1hr makes sense. 2 hours later I call back...they say they'll call the driver and call me back? Ok...that's no longer fresh sushi but ok. They call back in 10 minutes... Tell me it's going to be 20 minutes more... I tell them to please cancel the order because that's not fresh sushi and I've already been very disappointed 2.5 hours is a joke. The manager Melanie agrees. Ten minutes later the guy shows up, asks for the payment...I call Melanie to say I cancelled it...she says "oh we can't call the driver so he came anyway"? But you called him to tell me it was 20 minutes? uhhhh... I tell them to leave. They say sorry for the inconvenience...then 30 more minutes they call back after we've eaten and ordered from somewhere else...that they'd like to deliver the soggy old sushi...for free. After 3 hours I got my sushi. The miso soup wasn't even cold? That means it didn't leave the restaurant until probably 2 hours I ordered... Get some more staff sumo you're big enough come on.
