    Yamanote

Cute Japanese bakery recently opened at Al Wasl Square. Hands down the best pastries i have tasted in my life. I am serious. I can't get over how good it all tastes. We went with a girlfriend and her little daughter and we pretty much picked everything they had available at the moment just to get taste. It was insane, twisted donut, chocolate and cheese croissant, some cute looking fried items, i even liked hotdog in a bun and i never eat hotdogs. Decor is adorable and you can find japanese gift chocolates and tea cakes and fresh cakes as well. Place was packed by the way at 11, both Emirates and expats. So so so good.

    The Third Line

I love this gallery! It is one of the first galleries that set up in Al Quoz, specialized in Middle Eastern modern art and photography. It is also the only gallery in Dubai that has its own publishing house and their art books are beautiful - i have bought them as gifts for people few times. Lists of the artists and photographers of the gallery is very impressive and if you collect with intention to make a good investment - go to them. Recently gallery had a solo exhibition of Monir Farmanfarmaian and it was something out of this world - you can buy her work at any time only at this gallery. Current exhibition is Youssef Nabil with his new work "Time of Transformation". He is one of my all time favorite photographers, been following his works for a while, incredible installation. His work is expensive, and value goes up every year - but you'd never want to sell it though. Recommend you visit and sign up for the news letter to get updates on the future exhibitions. If you are planning on buying and need a qualified advice speak to Sunny Rahbar directly - she is wonderful.

    Noodle Bowl

It's a small dodgy looking place, from inside and outside. Think "Eat and Drink" clientele. My girlfriend's 11 year old son took me here after i picked him up from school promising "the best noodle soup in the world". We both ordered The beef noodle soup. It arrived and it was massive - lots of vegetables and mushrooms, lots of beef and lots of noodles. Lots of flavor. Lots of happy thoughts after. It was the largest soup bowl i have had in Dubai. I wish i took a picture. It was 27Dhs. Seriously good deal and worth checking out.

    Vu's Restaurant

Had a guest from out of town and we came here in a small group after dinner, since Agency wine bar was closed at midnight (our first choice) and ... it's a sad bar. I never liked it. The windows are weird and all the bulky metal posts are so heavy looking and they really block 50% of the view if that's what you are there for. Company was great and we had a nice vintage wine so i did have a good time. Definitely not because of the place. I noticed few lonely people at the bar and tables having their drinks which added to the sadness of the place. It wasn't busy. They are open past midnight though which is a huge plus in case you are in the area and need a drink. Maybe a live jazz band can help?

Jones The Grocer - Garden Plaza

This is actually a great breakfast spot. If you live in Abu Dhabi probably not worth seeking out, but lets say you are from Dubai and spent the night in Abu Dhabi and heading back - it's perfect. It's on the way home and very easy to find. If you've been to other locations you'd know the breakfast menu. I had eggs benedict with salmon and there was nothing wrong with it ( i don't particularly like the wooden board, but i'm not winy, so all good), my breakfast partner had poached eggs with toast and they came perfectly done. Also had some fruit and bread and coffee and well, it was a perfect breakfast. Def recommend if you are heading back to Dubai in the morning and need a healthy bite.

    Tori No Su

Had a really nice lunch here recently while on a work trip to Abu Dhabi. I wish i wish this place was in Dubai - i would definitely be a regular. Love the atmosphere: the lightning of the place, the finishings, the layout. If you appreciate the ambiance as much as the food - this is the spot. This time i set the window and the view is quite nice. Wasn't too busy, few businessman having their business lunch meetings-greetings, couple more solos like me. I haven't been since my last review but the staff actually remembered me, which i often get, but still so nice. I had sashimi which was fresh and enjoyable and one of the rolls. Had tea. All was perfect, love this place, i want to come back soon.

    Kiku

Excellent! It is impossible not to fall in love with this place. Decor is simple, subtle and chic with blond wood and glass display.the layout is great with a lot of private areas. Food is superb-Authentic Japanese, nothing exaggerated.Great value for money. Everything I ever had here was delicious. I especially recommend their soups. Had the bento box once for lunch and it could have fed two easily. Sashimi here is divine. Melt in the mouth divine. Awesome place for dinner for two - patio is cute and so are seats inside.

    La Petite Maison

La Petite is definitely one of the best restaurants in Dubai. Not to mention location is fantastic. It is always busy - no matter lunch or dinner - so i would say great place for a birthday party, or couples dinner, or treating your special out of town guests. It's not a romantic place, it's a social place. Lots of character, lots of confidence in food and wine, professional service and good crowd. Menu is polished so feel confident ordering anything. I love both their scallop and yellow tale carpaccio and endive salad. I also recommend salt baked sea bass - gorgeous! Try having your foie gras after the main with maybe nice Sauvignon from Bourgogne or some other sweet wine - it's so rich and good that you want to keep it till the end. Speak to sommelier if you are not sure about wine. Do save some room for dessert - warm Chocolate Mousse is superb. Booking in advance is a must especially on weekend.

    The Cobbler

Wow, not in the system yet. This is the one and only proper cobbler shop in entire UAE. Minutes and few street shops do a very average job of fixing worn hills and that's about it -ask them to use glue or paint the scratch or clean, stretch and condition the shoe-they think you speak different language. Cobbler is your place especially if you wear designer shoes. I bring my babies only to them and sometimes it costs a bit more -but it's worth every penny. The shop itself is beautiful -check out their custom slipper section :)
