  1. Stayed here with some friends recently over Easter. The hotel is absolutely massive - there must have been over 1,000 sun beds across the grass, poolside and on the beach but almost all were taken. Consequently it felt very crowded and it was difficult to get service around the pool. Poolside food was grossly overpriced - 120AED for a burger which anywhere else would be 40AED. The rooms are nice but not modern - more of a classic luxury style. Lots of nice touches and because we were celebrating a special occasion they brought complimentary wine and cake every day. This is a 5* hotel but I would prefer to stay in other Dubai 5* accommodation. This was just too busy and big for me, and overpriced for what it was. Prefer somewhere more discreet and low key.

  2. This place is a little tricky to find but is at the far end of the marina - you walk down some stairs to the waterfront and it has a great location on the water with outdoor seating. The food is Iranian I believe and of good quality. Shishas are excellent and the coal service is attentive. It is never super busy perhaps because not many people know of it, but it is well worth trying out for a quiet and relaxing shisha spot.

  3. I had the famous Burj Al Arab afternoon tea here and thoroughly enjoyed it. You are treated like a VIP from the moment you arrive. We had champagne followed by 4 or 5 courses of different tasters - sandwiches, hot appetizers, berries and cream, scones, cake and petit fours. Also there was a superb selection of teas and coffees. Everything was of the highest quality and even though the view is not that spectacular (it is facing inland on the first floor, so you can see Wild Wadi and the Jumeirah Beach hotel), it is a really amazing experience. Great for overseas visitors who want the wow factor.

  4. This tiny little place in Al Sufouh stays open really late and serves fantastic shawarma as well as a whole host of other fast food options. It's in the middle of this random stretch of empty desert on a single road behind beach road (where the palaces are) past Knowledge Village, and is perfect if you need a late night food hit. Shawarmas are about 4AED and stuffed with tahina and salad. Fries are a disappointment, always soggy and a bit cold. Overall a good little place to know about when everything else is shut.

  5. Amazing Moroccan place on beach road. This place looks like nothing from the outside but has the best tagine in town! And for a fraction of what you would pay in the 5* hotel Moroccan restaurants. The harira soup is thick and delicious, and with a great flavor, while the chicken and lemon tagine is one of the best I have ever tasted. Served with amazing french fries it is totally delicious. Their Moroccan bread is also fab and the Moroccan tea goes without saying. Two people can eat like kings for less than 100AED.

  6. Overpriced and average. Their new branch in Downtown is better, but this place is still packed, mostly because of the location on JBR walk. Shishas are OK but despite being more hygienic, I don't like the disposable pipes - they are too flimsy and don't work as well as standard shisha pipes. Food is not great either, so really, nothing to make you want to come here.

  7. You don't come here for the food - an odd mixed selection of cuisines from all over the world none of which is any good. I also think the owner has a hoarding complex because the originally cute and quirky artwork selection has spilled outside into a chaotic and random pile of junk that clutters up the entire walkway and is questionable in its artistic quality! It is also expensive compared to the other cafes on the same stretch. Shisha is OK but there are about 6 competitors within spitting distance who charge half. I hope the owner ditches most of the junk and brings back the fun and unique vibe that made this place popular in the first place. And gets a new chef.

  8. So good I have been twice in the last week. Tried to go a bit off piste from the usual Arabic staples and went for the eggplant salad, which was superb (with pine nuts and bits of goats cheese). Mixed grills are excellent - I particularly like the lamb cubes, and the salads are tasty and fresh. Although it's right next to SZR, sitting outside is nice, despite the deafening roar of traffic. Only niggle is that it is a bit tricky to reach - you have to take a U turn at Manara road, and take the slip road, it's easy to miss.

  9. I've been here after the odd night out and it is packed, even at 3 or 4am! As previously mentioned the bread is very good, and the mixed grill and shishas are also top notch. Great spot for traditional Arabic food

  10. Shu

Shu is a great little Arabic spot on beach road, right by the beach park. They do some good meal deals during the week where you get a free shisha over 50AED spend and being a shisha cafe, the service is attentive and the shishas are top quality. Not sure about the menu (weird pictures) and food items - seem very expensive for what is basic Arabic food that you can find anywhere for a fraction of the price. Main items hover on the wrong side of 50AED. I do enjoy their falafel sandwich, and the breads with complimentary dips are nice.
