Maya
14/04/2014

I went to a birthday at Maya last night which was hosted inside the Tequila room. We had a tequila tasting and lesson which was fun. The Mexican guy hosting the tasting was fun and really interacted with our group. He took the group through 4 different tequilas while we shared appetizers and mains in between tastings. The Queso Fundido and the Chicken were my favourites - you have to try them! Overall, the private room and the dynamic staff made the party fun. The downfall to the night was that the food took ages to come and I felt like the tasting took too long. As the group were getting 'merry' people stopped paying attention to the lesson and wanted to talk instead of listening. In the future, the tasting should be no more than 30 minutes or else it gets a bit boring.

I really like Maya and it's a beautiful restaurant with a great menu and super staff. I'm going to give them 4 stars as it was really annoying to wait so long for the food.

If you're interested in booking a tequila tasting, ask for Eric when you call. The tasting cost AED210 per head and with the food we ordered, we paid AED375 each.

Senso Wellness Centre
10/04/2014

Senso is a beautifully decorated spa hidden inside the Radisson Blu in Media City. It's clean, well-kept, and has a Japanese design influence. On top of that, they use quality treatment products. Why has it taken me so long to discover this little gem?!

I tried the Senso Signature Massage 60 in a couples room which was great. My masseur was professional and had a good, firm massage touch. I like how they have a shower and dressing room in the massage rooms. As this spa is located in a business district, apart from the tourists/ guests at the hotel, I can imagine office people are their customers and returning to the office oily is not an option. They have a package promotion that's great value. Each massage ends up costing around AED 265 with the promo.

GQ Bar
10/04/2014

I went to an event at the GQ Bar located o the ground floor of the JW Marriott Marquis, next to VIP. The bar is split into sections. You have the bar, standing table and a seating area on the right side. On the left there's a raised area for dining. They also have an upstairs area, unfortunately I didn't venture upstairs to check it out. GQ is a great brand and the bar is very chic. I can see people coming here for after dinner drinks or pre-clubbing drinks. The canapes they were passing around were good. I'm interested to find out what the dinner menu is like.

The highlights:

Great DJ / music
Cool and trendy bartenders and waitresses who are very attentive.

The downfall: it's very smoky in the bar area.

Bestro
08/04/2014

Amazing new RAW restaurant located in Galleries LaFayette Gourmet. For those of you who don't know raw cooking, it's vegan and the food has not been heated above 46C. At BeStro, the ingredients are mostly organic, gluten free, sugar free, non-processed and dairy free. The menu is small but changes daily. I tried the pasta dish and because this is a gluten free cafe, the spaghetti pasta is made from zucchini. It looks very much like pasta and tastes great. I also had the pizza which was similar to bruchetta. If you visit, you need to tre the cocoa pro-biotic nut mylk shake. It's so delicious and 100% good for you. I love this place!

Dannielle

Dannielle It really is an exceptional concept - something we don't see often in Dubai. I'm looking forward to your review! The owner Hayley is really sweet and friendly. She's the one with short hair glasses. Chat to her if you have the chance. Her story is interesting. :)

Iris Dubai
06/04/2014

We tried the Iris 'Le Brunch' this weekend and it's fantastic! If you haven't been to Iris yet, it's a rooftop restaurant and bar located on top of the Oberoi Hotel in Business Bay.

Food and service was top notch. Recommended dishes: Pancakes, crab & avocado, burratta and the ceviche. There's a beautiful selection of fruit and juices on display where you can help yourself. The rest of the dishes you order from your server. Great concept and a lovely setting.

Vida Hotels And Resorts
19/03/2014

Vida Hotel, formally the Qamardeen Hotel opened in May 2013 and is the latest hotel by Emaar Hospitality Group. It is the first of many for the Vida brand which is the sister hotel of The Address Hotels & Resorts. Vida was developed as an urban hotel concept located in the heart of lively Downtown Dubai, walking distance to the Dubai Mall and the iconic Burj Khalifa.

The word ‘Vida’ means ‘life’ in Spanish which perfectly describes this vibrant, city hotel that delivers a modern, up-scale environment for new generation discerning travellers who seek the perfect mix of business and modern indulgence. Travellers visiting Dubai for leisure will find the location convenient, especially while the weather is comfortable to take a stroll. You can walk to most of Downtown Dubai’s main attractions with a vast selection of restaurants, cafes and shopping on your doorstep. If you are travelling to Dubai for business, the Dubai International Financial District (DIFC) and the Dubai World Trade Centre (DWTC) are both a short taxi ride away. Vida offers functionality in a trendy location to work, stay and play.

The hotel is not categorized as a Boutique hotel, however it bears the feeling of a home away from home with its intimate aura, relaxed atmosphere and personalized service. There are 156 guest rooms within the 6 floors of this contemporary Arabic style building. The interior is warm, modern and bright with neutral cream and grey tones and large windows that provide an abundance natural light. You can expect high quality service from staff and without overgenerous fuss.

Vida is a city hotel, meaning it doesn't offer the same amenities as a destination resort & spa. The pool area is modest providing a handful of cabanas and sun beds to relax and dine by day and transforms into a buzzing social area to dine and enjoy shisha by night.

Guest rooms are hypermodern with large, comfortable beds, a panoptical, almost clinical white bathroom and simple art on the walls that keep within the neutral colour theme – there is nothing ostentatious in this hotel. If you are a coffee lover, you will appreciate the easy to use Nespresso machine and if you are in the mood for other snacks or beverages, you can simply order through the interactive TV. If you would like to set the mood with music, you can connect your smartphone to the Bose stereo through Bluetooth –just make sure you have your playlist sorted.

Lexington Grill
10/03/2014

I wish all restaurant staff were as lovely and professional as the team at the Lexington Grill! We started our culinary experience at the bar with their signature cocktail, the Monroe, named after Marilyn of course. It involves smoking dust, fire and a beaker. The skilled bartender /scientist walked us through the steps and although it took 10 minutes to make, it was well-worth it!
As for the food, they have all the typical offerings of a steak house, plus they have age dried beef! I started with the Waldorf salad with cured duck. It wasn't what I had expected but was still great. For my main I went with a perfectly cooked, tender steak. The highlight was enjoying dinner al fresco with a perfectly match bottle of wine. It doesn't get much better than this! For dessert we shared a chocolate fondant with banana and ice cream. After dinner, the somellier proudly showed us his wine cellar. Perfect evening.

Waldorf Astoria Ras Al Khaimah
10/03/2014

Seriously impressed with this hotel. There was a lot of wow factor going on and the grandeur alone is astonishing. The junior suite we stayed in had a stunning view of the ocean and the pool below. I'm not sure what features I loved more about this room - the gigantic bathroom with a bath tub pour deux or the walk-in closet / dressing room with a vanity desk. The overall service is impeccable and each room has a concierge assigned to it who was there upon arrival to show us to the room and explain all the features. I found the staff genuine and happy to help and that makes a big difference. It takes less than 1h30 to drive from Dubai which makes this a perfect weekend getaway.

The Beach House
09/03/2014

A new hangout on the Palm! The Palm seriously lacks options for a casual restaurant that has good, affordable food and drinks. Most places are super expensive and have dress code policy or they're casual but don't sell alcohol. The Beach House offers something in the middle with a DJ playing chilled house music in a beautiful beach setting overlooking the views of the Palm. House wine, AED30 and a great selection of Mediterranean food on the menu. Try the calamari and the air dried beef.
