Qbara
12/07/2014

I went to Qbara for a friends birthday on Thursday and was very impressed. The venue was busy - something I didn't expect during Ramadan. The restaurant has 2 floors and is huge. It's decor is dark and moody with beautiful carved walls. The food is divine. The steak tartar, raw oysters with pomegranate and chicken skewers were my favourites. I was too excited to eat and forgot to take photos. The portions are a decent size and the presentation was very nice. One of the guests at our table said that the chef at Qbara is ex La Petite Maison which would explain the excellent menu. We were a large group of 14 and shared about 20 dished between us. The bill with tip came to AED500 each. This included alcohol and water. I will definitely be back.

Organic Foods and Cafe

Stopped in to grab takeaway lunch. AED20 for an organic chicken wrap is not bad. There's parking for Organic Cafe patrons and the wrap was actually tasty.

Bystro
19/05/2014

Bystro recently opened on the same street as Crumbs Elysee, Reem Albawadi and Jones the Grocer. The restaurant is bright and open with clean lines, wood accents and a modern design. I got into chatting to the owner who used to work at Jones the Grocer. He's passionate about fresh ingredients and the menu has an Italian influence due to his time spent in Italy. It feels like a family restaurant and his wife is the interior designer. Very welcoming and friendly environment which is always a plus in Dubai.

Apart from being a restaurant, Bystro also has a retail section with freshly baked goods that range from Italian pastries to cakes. They also have a deli counter with sandwiches and salads.

For lunch we had the burrata, the smoked salmon, the quinoa salad and the shredded chicken salad followed by the sticky toffee pudding for dessert. I loved everything, however my favourite was the burrata as the balsamic dressing gave it a nice flavour and they put foccacia bread crumbs on top which gives it a nice texture and makes it different. They smoke their salmon in-house and it was really tasty. The managers are Italian and really friendly. I would definitely recommend Bystro for breakfast or lunch.

Talise Spa
19/05/2014

I had the 60 min Sodashi Bespoke Facial (AED575) and loved everything about it. For starters, the spa is beautiful. It's truly 5 star luxury with great service. Ayselo my therapist was very knowledgable and recommended a treatment based on my skin type. When the facial was finished I felt like I was glowing, my skin was balanced and I was completely relaxed. Even a few days later my skin looked great. I wish I could go every week!

Lounge Cafe Italiano
19/05/2014

This place is great for a coffee but not for lunch. I was very disappointed in the food. Over cooked tuna steak for AED70. It's just not worth it. The service was slow and the waiters are confused. On the positive side, they have good coffee and a good selection of bottled beverages. The decor is also very nice.

I might give it one more try as I might have been unlucky with what I ordered. Someone told me the pizzas are decent.

Iran Zamin Restaurant and Cafe
15/05/2014

We normally order Lebanese food for our weekly office lunch, however we decided to switch things up and ordered from Iran zamin today. The food was excellent. The quality of the meat and seafood seems to have improved or maybe it's because we always order from Mazaj in Media City and the quality (in my opinion) is quite poor. I don't know all of the names of the dishes, however I know the aubergine dish was my favourite and the mixed grill for 4 was definitely enough to feed 6-8.
The platters arrived well-packed with all the herbs, spices and yogurt. I highly recommend ordering from delivery them.

Dannielle I'm not sure if it was Fesenjoon- it's the orange dish in the photo next to the rice platter with aluminium. It's amazing!

Joga
14/05/2014

This new little cafe has recently opened in Media City . It's located within the court yard that connects building 8 and the CNBC building. It's across from Circle K and very near to Seattle's Best Coffee. I first visited Joga in DIFC where I fell in love with their apple/pumpkin soup and their amazing juices and salads. The media city location is pretty similar, although I don't think they offer an extensive juice menu like the DIFC branch. I only saw fresh OJ and grapefruit for AED20. Today

I tried the Chicken satay wrap. It was great and really filling with lots of chicken. Great value at AED28. I'm looking forward to trying the entire menu full of healthy options. I'm really happy to have a healthy lunch spot near my office. :)

La Serre Bistro & Boulangerie
11/05/2014

I went to a friend's birthday dinner for 22 people at La Serre. They managed to squeeze the group by making the table diagonal in the area next to the kitchen. This restaurant is not designed for such a large group, however they did a great job at accommodating us. The menu was pre-arranged and they printed individual menus for all the guests. Great service and excellent food. I really love this restaurant.

Bubbalicious Brunch
11/05/2014

A friend celebrated her birthday at Bubbalicious over the weekend. I'm not much of a brunch far but I must say this brunch has pretty much everything you can think of in terms of food. I opted for the AED490 which includes alcoholic drinks but not champagne (the champagne brunch is AED650). So what do you get for AED490? Basically the entire ground floor of the Westin is open for brunch. Hunters, Blue Orange and Spice Emporium are all included. I went for the seafood from Blue Orange. Lobster, prawns, oysters and crab. The freshness of the oysters were questionable, however I didn't get sick so they must have been fine. For me, the highlight of this brunch was the watermelon cocktails (see image). They also had whole coconut cocktails too which were fun. If you like pork, they offer several pork stations that include hot dishes and cured meat. The group continued on after 4pm at the wine bar upstairs (Oeno).

Magnolia Bakery
08/05/2014

I bought a HUGE Red Velvet cake for a friend's birthday. They only had two cakes ready in the bakery so call ahead to make sure they have some already made, or if you're organised, pre-order. :)
The cake cost AED270 which is pricey, however it tasted amazing. What I didn't like is that they charge AED2 per small crappy candle and they charge AED7 to write on the cake. These should be included!! 5 stars for the cake but 3 stars for not including the cake message and candles.

LondongirlinDXB

LondongirlinDXB Yes I agree..these little touches should be included in such an expensive cake (if required). It's not really a big deal for them. I love their cakes too and the red velvet is one of my favs!
