Tortuga

Delicious new Mexican addition to the Dubai scene with an unparalleled Patron tequila selection. Meal portions are small for the price and the staff is stingy with the complimentary nacho strips for some strange reason after asking for refills several times (they only give you 8-10 strips each time so you end up with more dip than nachos). Great location next to the water and be sure to get your Sirius points.

Katsuya by Phillipe Starck
09/12/2013

Just went to the soft opening of this restaurant which was amazing! From the inside Phillipe Starck decor to the outside view of the famous Dubai Mall fountains and of course, the food! Each bite was a mini explosion of flavors- some familiar and some new dishes but all well presented by the 100 attentive and happy staff members (I exaggerate of course). I tried every mocktail and was surprised I actually liked most of them with the Spicy Mandarin being a stand out.
Just when I thought I couldn't eat another bite no matter how delicious, they introduced me to their light but über moist expresso brownie and even lighter profiteroles which was not too sweet at all in keeping with Japanese pastries in general. The brownie reminded me of those molten chocolate souffles with a gooey inside.
I loved the colorful striking lucite modern Japanese decor but the music was way too loud to have a decent conversation which is why I docked it a star :)

Dial A Nail
24/09/2013

Good service for a decent price however don't expect to be rewarded for longterm loyalty. I prefer the home services especially when you can't get out of the house (pregnant, baby, no transport, privacy, etc) prices are good and the ladies who come out to you are professional. Great that they have Vita Liberata; non-toxic spray tan.

The Cheesecake Factory
26/08/2013

I was pregnant when this place opened in Dubai so I was able to eat pretty much everything guilt-free :) And I did! Portions are enormous but can be brought home in a doggie bag so you actually get two meals for one. Now, they have a new Skinnylicious menu with loads more healthy and diet conscious options! This suits me fine especially apres pregnancy :) I had the Taco appetizer (choice of Asian and Mexican styles but wrapped in Butter Lettuce leaves- Asian version was scrumptious!) and my husband had the Skinnylicious Mexican taco main made with fresh soft corn tortillas. We LOVED both of them! Prices run from about 20AED to 70AED for most items. Can't wait til next time!

Glam Nails

I used this service and they were very professional in uniforms and new kits. They use all OPI products if that makes a difference to you (not to me; Essie is the same). It would be great if they had an organic option like Ciate or Zoya for pregnant ladies or sensitive skin. Would love to use this service more often but they charge 175AED for a regular mani-pedi (200AED+ for a 'spa' version) which is way over the average price especially if you do this weekly like I do!

Pampered Pets
24/08/2013

Ugh... I have a 2 yr old cocker spaniel who's been going to Pampered Pets her entire life on a regular basis as lest once or twice a month for full grooming (not cheap at over 200AED a pop!). They never remember her or me and basically don't give a damn. I can't tell you how many times I've tried to book and waited for them to pick her up (I don't drive and taxis won't take animals) only to learn that noone is coming afterall due to xyz (despite me calling every half hr as I wait for the pick up for 4 HRS). Throughout this all, I have been a loyal customer forgiving them all the delays and other 'misunderstandings'.
That is until this week. Having given up on the pickup and delivery service, my husband took our dog in right after we got back from our summer vacation. We asked for the same we always ask (ie. full grooming and slight summer trim but leave the tail and even out the ears). We got her back the same, if not worse, then when we dropped her off. No care was given to make sure the hair on her floppy ears were even (bits longer than others) and her whole body hair looked as if it was merely chopped here and there, not manicured.
My husband was so upset about how she looked after paying over 200AED that he went back inside to speak to whomever was on duty and pointed out the mangey look our cocker now sported. Not only did we not get any kind of apology, they said they were too busy and there was nothing they could/ would do. Infuriating is the word that comes to mind and after trying to reason with the staff, we left vowing never to return again. For that price and loyalty, we can use any number of mobile pet grooming services or Woof Groomers the minute they have pickup & delivery as an option.
All the luxury pet accessories are way over priced and there is no play area for pets anymore since they covered it over with more retail displays. They really don't care about your pet or you which is a recipe for disaster. #EpicFail

eiBeauty Thanks Dannie; I mentioned Woof in my comment and I love how the pets have a huge area to play there all day but I need to wait until they have pickup and delivery service :( Fingers crossed soon!

Dannielle Oops, I missed that part. Try Pet Mart in Media City. I'm not sure if they have pick up but I've heard they're good groomers http://www.yadig.com/business/Dubai/Pet-Mart/32390

Woof! Pet Services
28/03/2013

These people really care about pets so it's a pleasure to spend time in their space. Dubai has very little to offer in terms of being able to socialize your pet so this is a great and affordable option provided you can drop off and pick up your dog (taxis won't allow animals inside their cabs). Woof also offers boarding and grooming options and it's only 10DHS/ hr to allow them to romp and play with others.
For our little Madison, she was timid at first because she wasn't used to being around other dogs especially off their leads, but then got into the swing of things pretty quickly and even sharing the ball with other buddies. We noticed a happy difference in her demeanor even after only an hour of play so we are always looking to find the time to bring her back.
Caution: Space is limited so you will need to book ahead of time particularly for their services but it's worth it!

Fuddruckers

Does anyone know if this place is still open? I used to live across the way from them and order burgers all the time (YUM!), but now that I don't live as close and would like to place a delivery, noone answers the phone. I would be really sad if it's closed down!

Sophie's
10/03/2013

Delicious healthy gluten-free options and really cute cafe where the decor brings the outdoors feel indoors (which is hard given our weather most of the year). I was impressed with how genuine the staff was about pleasing customers and even used their catering services to make my baby shower more memorable and tasty! Affordable, flexible (can design your own salads if needed due to allergies), and courteous. I don't ask for much! ;)

Ruth's Chris Steak House
23/11/2012

Oh boy, this isn't going to be pretty. Firstly, I have to say that I've enjoyed Ruth Chris' food for many yrs now and just spent my 3rd UAE Thanksgiving dinner there last night introducing visiting European visitors and old friends living here to the Thanksgiving concept so I thought this would be a great evening with good food. Well, the food was good, but the service was beyond crazy. Special Thanksgiving menu was 325AED including 2 glasses of wine which wasn't bad but not cheap either. We were 8 ppl and for some reason, the mgmt decided to scale down the portions per person to a few thin slices of turkey, tiny individual pots with about 3 tablespoons of sweetpotato mash (they gave us 6 pots for 8 people so not everyone got one), a half filled tiny pot of cranberry sauce pp (everyone requested more), 4 plates of greenbeans to be shared (of course), and 6 small muffins that were supposed to be the stuffing (again shared by 8 ppl). Not only did they not provide nearly enough food per person, but they didn't bother to check if we had enough to drink so our glasses were either empty or nearly empty during the 4 hr meal. When desert came (only 1 choice which was a cheescake), they served 4 guests and kept saying the others will come out soon (took nearly 20 mins and asking the server numerous times) before anyone could eat together. It was painful. IT WAS A SET MENU! Why in the world would they serve us in segments like that so some people finished their food before others got enough? Thanksgiving is all about the food and having it in abundance so this was a really cheap blow . Several of us let the 3 managers know about the problems on NUMEROUS occasions, got increasingly upset (some of the guests had to leave to catch their flight and requested separate checks to do so which was another painful experience), and finally reluctantly got another portion of food (they emphasized at no charge (!!)) and 2 cheap bottles of sparkling wine (not champagne) which I had to argue not to pay for given we were constantly waiting for their staff to serve us or respond to a request of any kind. I am sooo disappointed with this restaurant and was really hoping to love it since it is right by where we live and we had had such good experiences in the other Ruth Chris in the Monarch hotel over the years. I really regret talking this chain up to friends and ruining our special holiday with having to constantly get upset throughout the meal. Ugh.
