I went to the emergency at the Saudi German Hospital in the Greens last night for a DVT issue. I was referred by my GP at Emirates Hospital. The hospital is new, clean and well-organized. I arrived at 19:30 and saw the first doctor within 30 mins. The first doctor said he would bring in someone else who had more knowledge regarding DVT. 10 minutes later the 2nd doctor arrived. This doctor asked me a series of questions, took did a blood test and wanted to admit me for 5 days. Over diagnosing seems to be common in this region. I said no and asked for alternative options. An hour later another doctor came in and said he was replacing the 2nd doctor as his shift was over. After explaining my case AGAIN he decided to bring in the on-call vascular surgeon. I appreciated this, however my overall complaint was that the doctors didn't thoroughly explain what was going on and the process. I had an assigned nurse come in and start hooking me up to an IV, taking blood etc... without telling me what it's for. It can be scary when you don't know what's happening., especially when there is a language barrier between patient, nurse and doctor. I was finally discharged at 22:30.On the bright side, the follow up is good and the registration & discharge is easy. They love using text messages. I had one for thanking me for the opportunity to serve me and one for my next appointment. I haven't had to go to any other hospital in the UAE (thankfully). If I had to go to emergency again, I would go to Saudi German.
